CELEBRATING GIRL SCOUTS
Luncheon: The Juliette Low Leadership Society (women helping Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma) held its annual luncheon at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club. The crowd of 500 got to meet some members of Brownie Scouts, Girl Scouts and Daisy Scouts troops. The students from various Girl Scout chapters led the guests in The Girl Scout Promise, The Girl Scout Law and then everyone sang the Brownie Smile Song.
On the table: Lunch was chicken crepes and a mousse dessert topped with a Thin Mint Girl Scout cookie. Space-themed centerpieces in honor of Dr. Ellen Stofan, the guest speaker, were on the tables.
The program: Carol Troy and Adelaide Liedtke were co-chairmen of the event and emcees. Liz Coe was honorary chairman and Jeanne Hoffman Smith gave remarks on Coe's behalf, including the purchase of 264 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to be given to the Jimmy Everest Cancer Center for Children. Shannon Evers, Girl Scout of Western Oklahoma CEO, also welcomed guests and gave remarks.
Inspiring speaker: Stofan, former chief scientist of NASA (2013-2016) and now honorary professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at University College London and co-chairman of the World Economic Space Council, talked about her life with NASA and her advocacy for the funding of science and technology. She also talked about women embracing careers in STEM. She is adviser to the Coalition for Deep Space Exploration, Terra Alpha Investments and the Space Angels Venture Fund.
Committee chairmen: Other chairmen included Tina Beal, Amy Cottrell, Sandy Ellis, Kathy Frankenfield, Joan Gilmore, Julia Hall, Penny McCaleb and Gayle Semtner.
HONORING CAROLINE AND GABE
Wedding shower: Caroline Cameron and Gabe Ikard were honored at a wedding shower at The Petroleum Club. The engaged couple will be married in March. The Weekend All Stars band played for dancing and the 150 guests took photos in the photo booth.
Dinner: On the menu were fruit and cheese trays, pasta salad, pork tenderloin, chicken salad, chicken and fettuccine and beef tenderloin. Bouquets of yellow, orange, red, pink tulips, roses and green hydrangeas and ivy were centerpieces and they were surrounded on the tables by colorful votive candles.
Hosts: In the host group were Mollie and Don Andrews, Abbey and David Box, Patty and Charlie Brown, Terri and Sean Cummings, Kim and Joe Hodges, Shawn and Blake Hogan, Ciane and Brad Hogan, Susan and Dale Jordan, LeAnn and Paul Lienhard, Joni and Scott Rund, Diane and Tod Sanger.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ADEEBA
Celebration: Adeeba Samara celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club. She was born Feb. 20, 1918.
Hosts: Hosts were her children and their spouses, Lillian Badeen, Nadia and Sam Shadid, Dianna and William Kakish, Carolyn Hamra, Leslie and Dr. Scott Samara, and Andrea and Johnny Jones.
Decor: The tables were set with beige lace cloths with centerpieces accented in gold. The double-tiered cake had 100 candles.
Family fun: A video of special memories and highlights of her 100 years was shown.
83RD ANNIVERSARY
Party to remember: The Young Men's Club of Oklahoma City celebrated its 83rd anniversary as a social club with a formal dinner dance held at the India Shrine. About 100 members and wives attended. Klein's Catering provided the dinner buffet.
Music: The Tinker Flying High 14-piece orchestra provided music for dancing.
Stay the course: The group, founded Feb. 5, 1935, has dances, picnics, stag parties and other social functions for members.
HAPPY HOUR
Event: Malena Lott Putnam's annual “Galentine's Happy Hour” was held in her home and she served wine and “Galentini” cocktails of vodka, cranberry juice and champagne. Hearts and balloons decorated the house.
DAR LUNCHEON
Occasion: The annual George Washington luncheon put on by the Oklahoma City Regents Council of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the Gaylord Center of Oklahoma Christian College.
Theme: It was the 150th anniversary of the Chisholm Trail and Mike Sheriff was the speaker. Members dressed in western style clothing and tables featured a western theme.
