Five years ago, Guernsey Park burst onto the local dining scene with a spectacular menu in a cool, modern dining room but on Tuesday it was announced the restaurant would soon close.

Serving sushi and an ambitious menu of Asian cuisine informed by classic French technique, Guernsey Park helped elevate local cuisine and build a bridge between the Asian District and Oklahoma cuisine.

Chef Vuong Nguyen, now the consulting chef at Chae, wrote the sublime original menu. Ambitious plans followed for more concepts followed, but Nguyen left to pursue other interests the following year.

Chefs Matt Johnson, and Paul Langer have followed and maintained those standards. Ownership later added Covell Park in Edmond and Chick N Beer, also in Uptown.

Despite continued development and improvement in Uptown, Guernsey fell victim to the restaurant market pushing past the fill line. Following a national trend, the local restaurant market is over-saturated. Unfortunately, Guernsey Park won't be the last good restaurant to close this year.

The restaurant is offering specials through the final service, which will be Jan. 28. Check here for updates.
