The Morning Brew: OKC parents show support for Humphreys; Candidates punt on pot
Some parents show support for Humphreys

Former Oklahoma City mayor Kirk Humphreys has been embattled since remarks he made about gays on a local political talk show. He recently resigned from the University of Oklahoma board of regents, and some parents have called from him to resign from the board of John Rex Elementary.
At a school board meeting Monday night, Humphreys found some support from parents:
One by one, they followed John Rex Charter Elementary School parent Megan DeShazo to the podium at Monday night's Oklahoma City School Board Meeting. About a dozen people wearing blue and white shirts declaring their love for the school.
Not to call for Kirk Humphreys to resign from the John Rex board as so many others have following remarks he made last month condemning homosexuality.
But to stand behind him.
"Mr. Humphreys' central role in John Rex's creation has made the controversy over the past few weeks a difficult experience for the John Rex community," DeShazo told the board. "It is clear from Mr. Humphreys' apology that he realizes his ... comments fell short in context and in tone.

Gubernatorial candidates punt on medical pot
Republican gubernatorial candidates mostly avoided taking a clear stance Friday on whether they will support a state question legalizing medical marijuana. Both Democratic candidates are supporters of the question, if not the timing of the vote.
Republican Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb said, “I suspect this issue will be much debated and discussed among Oklahomans in the months ahead; however, my campaign will continue to focus on what Oklahomans believe are even more substantive issues.”
