Ed Godfrey shares his favorite books of 2017

The best book I read this year — and the best book I have read in several years — is "Killers of the Flower Moon."

David Grann's investigation into the murders of Oklahoma's Osage Indians in the 1920s is a brilliant piece of journalism and storytelling. It was literally a book I couldn't put down.

It's deservingly on Amazon's list for the top books of 2017 and a film adaptation is in the works. I can't recommend it strongly enough.

As a fan of Westerns, I also really enjoyed Jeff Guinn's “Silver City.” It is a rousing adventure with great characters and follows in the footsteps of great cowboy storytellers like Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour.

Guinn mixes in some real-life Western figures such as the Clanton gang and Geronimo in this highly-entertaining tale.

Also, as fan of crime fiction, Michael Robotham's “The Secrets She Keeps” was excellent. It's a psychological thriller told from two female characters — both who are expectant mothers but one who has an unhealthy obsession with the other.

Both women have secrets they desperately attempt to keep in a book that feels very much like a Alfred Hitchcock movie.
