The Morning Brew: Best time to drive in Oklahoma this Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving: Best time to travel
Franklin Roosevelt established the modern Thanksgiving in 1941. Depending on the company, it's either a time for family, fellowship and food, or a living nightmare you can't wait to escape.
Those looking to take at least some of the stress out of their lives might want to check out data from Waze, a popular navigation app. The app works mostly from crowd sourcing and last year it collected data from 90 million users and calculated peak times for activities like grocery shopping and driving to grandma's house.
- Based on 2016 data the worst time to visit your local grocery store is between 3 and 5 p.m. the day before Thanksgiving.
-The worst time to travel by car is typically Tuesday after 5 p.m.
- The worst time to travel after Thanksgiving will be Monday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
And what about Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving night?
Based on last year's data, Waze expects searches for directions to retail locations to start late during the night of Thanksgiving. Routes to stores are expected to peak from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, with 1 p.m. being the busiest time.
Based on its data Waze expects heavy traffic at electronics stores. The company is predicting a 208 percent increase in travel to those retailers over a typical Friday in November. All of the predictions are based on searches from users.
