More Mural Art Coming to Bricktown
(Strength of the Women)
In just a couple of years Downtown Oklahoma City Initiatives, a non-profit public art campaign run by Downtown Oklahoma City Inc., has made a huge difference in adding color and art throughout the urban core.
Among the first projects taken on by the organization was “Cultivation” by Jason Pawley, a mural that replaced blank white walls along the Reno Avenue underpass into Bricktown through the BNSF railway viaduct.
The “Earth to Sky” mural on the north wall of the Sheridan Avenue underpass by Chad “Nish” Earles and Rhiana Deck, and “Strength of the Woman” by J. NiCole Hatfield and Steven Grounds followed and have proven to be a strong, vibrant addition to the main entry to Bricktown.
The last downtown entry into Bricktown with blank walls is next to get the mural treatment with Kris Kanaly commissioned to paint his mural “Abstract Passages” on the Main Street underpass. He’s doing the prep work (buffing and priming) today, and will start painting the mural this weekend. The mural should be completed by Nov. 1.
