Six travel apps for your next trip

Money Magazine has a look at six travel apps that might make your next trip a little smoother, or cheaper, and if you're lucky, both.

The apps are Hopper, AirFair, Hotel Tonight, Stay at Hand, Turo and Spot Hero.

Of the six I've only used Hopper and found it to be an okay app. It's well designed and fairly easy to use. How accurate is it? Who knows. Individual results may vary.

The others, like Hotel Tonight, finds hotels that have same-day vacancies which is helpful if you find yourself in a travel fiasco.

AirFair tells users how much and what kind of compensation they might be due if a carrier leaves them stranded.

Spot Hero is the most intriguing. Hotel parking is expensive, often to the point of being ludicrous. This app gets around that by finding cheaper parking in the same vicinity. It's an interesting idea but begs the question how does one get from the alternative parking area back to the hotel, other than walking which might not be an option for some who have physical limitations, or simply don't want to do it.
