OafCon 2017 to offer free admission

The Comic Book & Nostalgia Convention "Oafcon" returns for its 2017 edition in Norman in October. The convention features comic books, fantasy art, toys, movie posters, old time radio memorabilia and more.

OafCon is a presentation of the Oklahoma Alliance of Fandom comic book, science fiction and nostalgia club, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2017.  To celebrate the 50th anniversary, the convention is offering free admission in 2017. (Attendees will be required to wear name tags.)

According to the web site at, OAF members began by having comic book meetings in members' garages in March 1967, and later hosted the 1970 Multicon in OKC and many conventions thereafter. 

The hours for OafCon are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Embassy Suites Convention Center in Norman. 

According to the organization, rooms at the Embassy Suites have been reserved for attendees and can be reserved by telling the hotel you are attending the OAF-sponsored comic-book show.

Guests set for the show include comics historians Craig Yoe, Bill Schelly and Roger Hill; comic strip creators Jack and Carole Bender; "Shadow" publisher Anthony Tollin; novelist and retailer Buddy Saunders; illustrator Kenneth Smith; and others.
