High-ranking member of the clergy charged with sex abuse
A powerful leader in the Vatican has been charged with sexual abuse by Australian police, reports The Associated Press.
Cardinal George Pell is the head of finance for the Catholic church and the highest-profile member of the clergy to be charged.
Pell charged that the allegations are nothing more than character assassination, but reports of abuse have dogged him since the 1960s when he was starting out as a priest.
