Wayback Wednesday: Jaws released

If you turn 42 this year, congrats, you were born the same year Jaws was released. Bonus points for the actual date: June 20, 1975.

If you saw it on opening day in Oklahoma City you would have seen it at North Park Theatre. Or, as the half-page ad in that day's Oklahoman put it "Universal Pictures has selected North Park Theatre for the biggest film of the decade."

It might have been up to that point, but Han, Luke and Leia and the rest of the Star Wars gang would be along to dethrone Jaws two years later.

But on this day, the shark was king. There were seven screenings that day, beginning at 10 a.m. with the last at midnight. It was probably a tough ticket. Jaws went on to gross $470 million on a $9 million budget catapulting Steven Spielberg into legend status.
