Airline quality rankings released
The 2017 Airline Quality Ranking is out and despite a spate of bad publicity domestic carriers have improved their performance over 2016.
The ratings, joint venture between Wichita state University and Emery Riddle, are a deep dive into performance:
The Airline Quality Rating (AQR) is the most comprehensive study of performance and quality of the largest airlines in the United States. The rating is a multifactor examination of the airlines based on mishandled baggage, consumer complaints, on-time performance and involuntary denied boardings.
The top 10
1. Alaska Airlines
3. Virgin America
5. Hawaiian Airlines
6. Southwest Airlines
7. Sky West Airlines
8. United Airlines
9. American Airlines
The study also found that mishandled baggage was down from 3.24 per 1,000 passengers in 2015 to 2.7 per 1,000 passengers last year.
Amazingly, the study found customer complaints declined from 1.52 per 100,000 passengers in 2016 from 1.9 the previous year.
American, Delta, Southwest, Express Jet, Alaska and United all serve Oklahoma City.
