Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg to teach MasterClass
Fashion designer and philanthropist Diane von Furstenberg will teach a class this summer with MasterClass, an online education platform.
For her first ever online class, she’ll focus on how to build a fashion brand, including how to differentiate yourself, create a visual identity, test your product, build a team and make a name for yourself in the fashion industry. She’ll also touch on finding your inspiration, authenticity, overcoming failure and gaining confidence.
It’s a natural fit for von Furstenberg. She arrived from Europe with a suitcase full of dress designs and in 1974 created the iconic wrap dress that women eagerly embraced. Two years later, she had sold more than one million of the dresses and was featured on the cover of Newsweek. She relaunched her company in 1997 with the dress that started it all and DVF is now a global luxury brand sold in more than 55 countries.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to teach this MasterClass and to share my knowledge, my experience, successes and failures,” von Furstenberg said. “It is a class about building a fashion brand but it is also about designing your life.”
Von Furstenberg received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2005 and a year later was elected the CFDA’s president. In 2015, she was named chairman of the organization and that same year was included in TIME’S 100 Most Influential People list.
