Josh Brolin to play Cable in 'Deadpool 2'
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Josh Brolin has nabbed the role of the mutant leader Cable opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2.
Brolin previously played DC Comics' Western hero Jonah Hex, and is currently cast as Marvel Comics' bad guy Thanos.
Cable was created by Rob Liefeld and writer Louise Simonson, making his first full appearance in the pages of "New Mutants" #87. The gruff time-traveler takes command of the New Mutants squad, eventually molding them into the team known as "X-Force." "X-Force" #1, by Liefeld and scripter Fabian Nicieza, sold more in the neighborhood of 5 million copies in 1991, becoming briefly the best-selling comic of all time. (A new X-Men #1 later in 1991 would set the record that still stands to this day, with sales of around 7 million copies.)
Deadpool's first appearance was in "New Mutants" #98, prior to "New Mutants" final issue with #100. Deadpool appeared for the second time in "X-Force" #2, and was a frequently recurring character in the comic's early days.
