Summer’s big event is set; put June 15 on your calendar
We had big news in the sports section last Sunday.
A sports legend is going to be in town to introduce the best of the athletes in the city.
Sounds a little like old news, right? Sounds like when Michael Jordan was here last year to help induct Russell Westbrook into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
That was a big story.
This one is actually a bigger story.
It’s a bigger story because it honors more than 500 student-athletes for their on-field success, academic achievement and community involvement. High school sports are important in our communities, and we recognize the impact these young people are prepared to make on the world.
Peyton Manning, two-time Super Bowl champion and five-time NFL MVP award-winner, will be in Oklahoma City on June 15 for The Oklahoman’s All-City Prep Sports Awards event at the Cox Convention Center.
The best high school athletes in the Oklahoma City area – representing all the sports -- will be invited to the dinner. The Oklahoman will present the All-City awards, including the prestigious male and female athletes of the year, the coach of the year and the team of the year.
They and their guests will have the opportunity to hear a keynote speech from Manning and participate in a Q&A with the NFL great.
The athletes and their families will be there. Coaches will be there. Peyton Manning will be there.
You can be there, too. Companies can sponsor tables, and individuals can purchase tickets.
