EDMOND — Volunteers gathered in J.L. Mitch Park to plant 33 trees as part of Edmond's Arbor Week celebrations.

The purpose of Arbor Week is to promote the planting and care of trees in Edmond.

Earlier in the week, volunteers spread mulch around trees in Westborough Park, 1905 Ryan Way, as another Arbor Week project.

Winners of the Edmond Arbor Day Art Contest for fifth-graders, with the theme “Trees in Our Town," were recognized during this week's city council meeting.

First through third place and an honorable mention from each of 20 participating public and private schools are being showcased through April 30 in the “Arbor Day Art Show” at the Edmond Historical Museum, 431 S Boulevard.

March is a good time to plant trees, while the roots are growing but tree buds are still dormant.
