The Morning Brew: Trump supporter's husband is being deported

Friday is here. Here are the headlines making the rounds:

Trump supporter's husband is being deported

Roberto Beristain's family told Indiana Public Radio that their loved one came to the U.S. illegally in 1998. But he married, obtained a legal Social Security card and driver's license and checked in with the federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency each year, according to the South Bend Tribune.

He purchased a popular Granger, Ind. steak restaurant that employed 20 people.

But federal agents detained him in early February; he could be deported as soon as today, according to multiple news reports.

His wife of 17 years, Helen, said she supported Trump in an interview with a local television station:

"I understand when you're a criminal and you do bad things, you shouldn't be in the country," Helen said. "But when you're a good citizen and you support and you help and you pay taxes and you give jobs to people, you should be able to stay." "We were for Mr. Trump," she added. "We were very happy he became the president. Whatever he says, he is right. But, like he said, the good people have a chance to become citizens of the United States."

Now, the future is unclear, she said.

Just last month, a similar story unfolded in an Illinois town, when federal agents took into custody the manager of a popular local restaurant, reported The New York Times.

On Feb. 9, Mr. Hernandez, 38, was arrested by federal immigration agents near his home, not far from La Fiesta, and taken to a detention facility in Missouri. The federal authorities confirmed that he remained in custody, but would not comment on the precise reason for or timing of his arrest.
