The story behind the toddler who crashed Dad's BBC interview

The professor had finished his soda. He straightened his tie. The expert on East Asian affairs connected with the BBC via Skype and began to explain from his home office in Busan, South Korea's move to impeach its president. 

Then his toddler hopped in the room, followed by her baby brother. Their panicked mother slid into the room next to collect the kids.

Dad, as it turned out, had forgotten to lock the door.

The pink and white cherry blossoms that color the U.S. capital and draw a million visitors each spring began with trees that have survived for a century. It was 100 years ago this month when first lady Helen Taft and the Viscountess Chinda, wife of the Japanese Ambassador, planted two Yoshino cherry trees on the bank of Washington's Tidal Basin. They were the first of 3,000 planted as part of a gift from the city of Tokyo as a symbol of friendship.
