Job fair scheduled for Edmond teachers

EDMOND — Edmond Public Schools will hold a teacher job fair from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 21 and Feb. 23 at the district's administrative headquarters, 1001 W Danforth Road.

Teachers interested in a job in elementary education should plan to attend the Feb. 21 job fair. The Feb. 23 event is for those interested in a job in secondary education.

The district will have open positions posted in the areas of elementary, early childhood, math, English and special education, among others.

More than 50 teachers have announced plans to retire or resign at the end of the academic year, and that number is expected to rise.

Participants should bring several copies of their resumes and be prepared to meet with principals for interviews.

The district also is urging college graduates with nonteaching degrees to attend the job fair to learn more about the rewards of the profession. District staff will be available to offer information about alternative routes to teacher certification.

The district offers teachers a starting salary among the highest in the metro area, extensive peer mentoring, paid life and disability insurance and supplemental pay for additional duties such as coaching or sponsoring a student club, according to a news release.

No registration is necessary to attend the job fair. For more information, call 340-2913.
