This was her chance to score a point.
The air crackled with hope and anxiety.
The clock ran down.
The ball plunked into the hoop.

The acrobatics. The costumes. The voice.
And as The Oklahoman's Brandy McDonnell pointed out, she may have embedded a political message in her performance, from one of Oklahoma's favorite sons: Woody Guthrie.
Against a pre-recorded backdrop of 300 Intel drones forming an American flag, she sang the opening of "God Bless America," followed by a snippet of Okemah native Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land." The Oklahoma folk legend's beloved song is considered an alternative national anthem as well as a protest song, penned as a countermeasure against the ubiquity of "God Bless America" and as a social commentary calling for a more inclusive and just America.
She's coming to Oklahoma for a Dec. 9 show at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
