‘Charlie' auditions are set

EDMOND — Auditions for the Edmond Fine Arts Junior Theatre production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 17. Children in third through eighth grades are invited to audition. An audition workshop will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Dec. 15. For cast members, tuition of $215 is required, including the costume fee. Families to get money for gifts

NORMAN — Cleveland County sheriff's deputies and volunteer firefighters will help eight families shop for Christmas gifts at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Walmart at 601 12th Ave. NE. Walmart Super Center stores in Moore and Norman donated money toward gift cards. Each family will receive a $500 gift card to buy gifts. This year, Alameda Church of Christ will give a food basket to each family.

Author to speak at Rose State

MIDWEST CITY — Author Jerry Vancook will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Tom Steed Community Learning Center at Rose State College, for the December meeting of Mid-Oklahoma Writers. Vancook's book “Going Undercover” is about his extended deployments as an undercover officer for Oklahoma law enforcement agencies. He is currently an adjunct instructor and teaches novel writing at the University of Central Oklahoma.
