Longtime Republican seat goes to Democrat Walke

Democrat Collin Walke won the House District 87 seat in northwest Oklahoma City — the first Democrat to do so since Edward "Sandy" Sanders held the office from 1971 to 1986.

Walke defeated Republican Bruce Lee Smith by a vote of 6,466 to 6,029. Libertarian candidate Elle Collins had 978 votes.

"I'm very grateful for the voters of House District 87," Walke said. "I look forward to being a strong voice for them at the state Capitol."
