Who likes spray-on nail polish?

A large drawer in one of my bathrooms is devoted to all things nail related.

More polishes than I care to count. Crystal nail files. Top coats that promise fast-drying and shine-enhancing results. Base coats formulated to stick to polish. Cuticle oil and smoothing blocks.

Most of the polishes are by Essie with a few OPI shades and other brands in the mix. I always take my polish to the salon so if I need to fix a chip later, I’ve got the shade.

What’s missing in that drawer is one of the new spray-on polishes. I find them interesting, but not tempting. Not even in the name of research. The process looks messy; just watch an online video.

Nails Inc. and China Glaze both offer sprays, but colors are limited. On the Sephora website, Nails Inc., priced at $12, received 195 reviews with only two stars out of five. At Ulta, China Glaze at $9.99 had 29 reviews with 1.7 stars. Not exactly raves.

Here’s how it works: Start with a base coat being careful not to get it on cuticles, and then spray a light layer of polish. Allow to dry, then spray again. Apply a top coat and once dry, rinse residue off hands with mild soap and water. Reviewers say wait too long and the excess polish is harder to remove. Both brands suggest using their own base/top coats.

Though I’m usually eager to try new beauty products, I’m saying no to spray-on nail polish for now. But surely there’s someone who has tried it. Share.
