Oklahoma Muslims are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr

Many Oklahoma Muslims are celebrating the Islamic holiday of Eid-ul-Fitr today, July 6, joining Muslims worldwide in marking the Islamic holiday.

The holiday includes congregational prayers, social gatherings and food and meat distribution to the less fortunate in the community.

Eid ul-Fitr commemorates the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. One of the five pillars, or obligations, of Islam, Ramadan commemorates the divine revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad. Observant Muslims around the world abstain from food, drink and sensual pleasures from dawn to sunset during the month.
