Oklahoma City considers job creation incentives for incoming law group
Oklahoma City is considering giving $500,000 in job creation incentives to a law firm that specializes in representing clients with medical and consumer debt.
The National Litigation Law Group plans to add 100 new jobs in Oklahoma City over the next year, eventually adding 500 jobs over the next five years.
Money for the job-creation incentives will come from Oklahoma City's Strategic Investment Program, an incentive fund that gives cash payments to expanding or relocating companies in the city.
The Oklahoma City Economic Development Trust is set to vote on the incentive deal Friday.
About a third of the jobs National Litigation Law Group is creating in Oklahoma City are attorney positions and the rest are for paralegals as well as other administrative, customer service and support staff, said Brent Bryant, Economic Development Program Manager for Oklahoma City.
"The nice thing about this project is that there's a balance of jobs they are creating from attorney jobs, where you have to have a juris doctorate and they also have a lot of entry-level jobs you can qualify for right out of high school," Bryant said.
Founded two years ago, National Litigation Law Group has about 100 employees and is growing at a rate of around 10 percent to 15 percent each month, said Robert Haupt, who started the firm with partner James Bryant.
The firm's offices are in Shepherd Mall, 2401 NW 23.
National Litigation Law Group offers legal services to its clients with debt problems for a fixed monthly rate. Haupt estimates the firm has represented nearly 200,000 clients over the past two years.
“We are the only law firm we know of in the country that provides representation to consumers on a national basis,” Haupt said. “There are lots of law firms that represent creditors, but we are the only ones who represent the other side in a cost-effective manner.”
In addition to the company's planned expansion in Oklahoma City, the firm recently gained a national contract with a debt settlement company, according to city documents. The average first-year wage for the new jobs is estimated to be $48,234.
National Litigation Law Group is based in Oklahoma City and has offices in Dallas, Denver, New York, Orlando, St. Louis, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
