Oklahoma City southside Target will close
Oklahoma City's southside Target store will close this summer.
The Target store at 800 SW 44 will close its doors for good Aug. 20, the company said.
Target gave its employees notice last week that the store would close, Kristy Welker, a spokeswoman for Target, said in an email.
All eligible Target store team members are being offered the option to transfer to other Target stores, the company said.
"The decision to close a Target store is not made lightly," Welker said. "We typically decide to close a store after careful consideration of the long-term financial performance of a particular location. Typically, a store is closed as a result of seeing several years of decreasing profitability."
The company did not respond to questions about how many workers the store employed.
Property records show that Target owns the 137,630-square-foot building that houses the store, as well as an ACE Hardware.
In November, Target announced that it would close 13 stores nationwide in January, but no Oklahoma locations were included in that list.
Target has more than 1,700 stores nationwide.
