Pitcher Ryan Vogelsong hit in head by fastball, exits game early
Pittsburgh Pirates hurler Ryan Vogelsong left Monday's game early after being hit in the head by a 92-mph fastball.
Vogelsong was at bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning with an 0-2 count when a fastball from Colorado Rockies right-hander Jordan Lyles got away, striking Vogelsong in the face, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. Vogelsong fell to the ground and lay motionless for a few moments while team trainers rushed to assist him.
Vogelsong was taken off the field in a cart, and was admitted to Allegheny General Hospital, the Tribune-Review reported.
