Memorial Marathon: OKC numbers strong despite difficult economy

 A few weeks ago, Oklahoma City National Memorial executive director Kari Watkins worried whether the Memorial Marathon's participation numbers would be able to finish strong.

Would this year’s event reach 24,000?

That’s been a mark for all runners in all events that the Memorial Marathon has consistently achieved, and with a late push, including registrations during Friday and Saturday’s expo, it did so again Sunday.

Final tally: 24,818.

“It’s awesome,” Watkins said. “It’s right where we were last year. Knowing the state of the economy, I feel really good about it. I was really proud and happy that people could still do it.”
