Interviewing "The Fonz"

Sat down with a good book last night. The latest in the "Here's Hank" series by Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver features the hero Hank inadvertantly involved in a culinary contest with his cousin. The title "You Can't Drink a Meatball Through a Straw" comes from initial drama between smoothies and veggie meatballs.

Winkler, who starred as "The Fonz" on the 1970s sitcom "Happy Days," stopped by The Oklahoman's video studios to talk about the book with his co-author, Oliver. Winkler has written 19 books since starting in 2003, 17 of them starring Hank Zipzer. Winkler says the Zipzer character is patterned from his own life and experiences growing up with dyslexia. The book is written in a special font called Dyslexie, which is easier to read.

Winkler and Oliver are stopping by the Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma County on Thursday afternoon. They are signing books at Best of Books on Thursday evening at 7.

I also asked him about the enduring pop culture icon "The Fonz" became, see below.
