The history of cigarette sales tax in Oklahoma

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin would like to boost the tax on a pack of cigarettes by $1.50.

Oklahoma has taxed cigarettes ever since 1917, when the first cigarette license and tax law was passed. Since then the state has raised the tax on cigarette smokers eight times.
