Wanted for winter: Salvation Army needs blankets

The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Command is urgently seeking donations of blankets for its homeless shelter.

Leaders of the faith-based organization said the 109-bed shelter is housing an extra 40 people each night due to ongoing cold temperatures.

Maj. Charlotte Gargis, a leader with the Central Oklahoma Area Command, said donors may bring the blanket donations to the Salvation Army Chesapeake Energy Center of Hope, 1001 N Pennsylvania, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. She said monetary donations may be made at the office or online at www.salvationarmyokcac.org.

She said they need new twin size blankets that are machine washable so they can be easily cleaned.
