Course to cover basic sign language in 6 weeks

Could you use a knowledge of basic sign language to better serve clients or communicate with friends? Oklahoma City Community College’s Professional Development Institute will offer a six-week evening course beginning next month.

Instructor Edith Daggs, a certified interpreter for the deaf for nearly two decades, will cover basic American Sign Language signs and conversational signs. The culture and etiquette of the deaf community will be taught through interactive games and activities. The class is designed to be fun with no books or tools needed. The cost is $60.

The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Feb. 2 through March 8 at the Professional Development Institute, 7124 Interstate 35 Service Road. For more information, go to or call Francine Gissy at (405) 682-7856.
