Round 5: The Tuesday Republican debate podium lineup

The fifth Republican presidential debate takes place Tuesday evening on CNN. Make sure to follow the event live on and pick up a copy of The Oklahoman Wednesday for additional coverage.

Front-runner Donald Trump snagged a center stage spot, and he’s expected to fend off a challenge from Ted Cruz, the Texas senator who has surged ahead in Iowa in seven weeks before the state’s 2016 caucuses.

Trump will be flanked by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson on the right and Cruz on the left, CNN announced Sunday.

CNN reports the six remaining participants in the prime-time contest will be Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, businesswoman Carly Fiorina, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.

Appearing in the first debate Tuesday - the undercard - are former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and former New York Gov. George Pataki.
