Muslim advocacy group calls for increased security at two OKC & Edmond mosques
The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) is calling for increased security from local police departments in response to hate rallies by anti-Muslim extremists targeting mosques nationwide on Friday and Saturday, October 9-10, the organization's leaders said in a news release.
Earlier in the week, representatives of the Oklahoma CAIR chapter met with representatives from Oklahoma City and Edmond Police Departments following news that an anti-Muslim rally was being planned at the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City on Saturday.
CAIR representatives also shared concerns of a possible protest at an Islamic Circle of North America conference taking place in Edmond on the same day.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City is planning a grand opening celebration of its new Mercy Mission Building, a community outreach center, at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the society's mosque at 3815 N St. Clair Ave.
