Prayer vigils for Richard Glossip execution

Prayer vigils are planned at different locations today, Sept. 16, as the state prepares to execute Richard Glossip.

Glossip was convicted of paying to have his boss, Barry Van Treese, beaten to death in 1997.

Coordinators of the prayer efforts said the vigils will be held to pray for Glossip, Van Treese, their families and the corrections officers who are taking part in the execution.

Coordinators said people of all faiths are welcome to participate.

Prayer vigils are planned for the following sites:

-- McAlester, 2  p.m., front gate of the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.

-- Oklahoma City/Warr Acres, Chapel of the Holy Innocents, 6324 NW 63. Prayers may be offered privately throughout the day.

-- Tulsa, Church of the Madalene, 3188 E 22 Street, 3 p.m., and Bishop Kelly High School chapel, 3905 S Hudson, 3 p.m.
