American Airlines looking long term with Cuba charters?

News this week that American Airlines will be offering charter flights from Los Angeles, Tampa and Miami to Cuba beginning in December. Tickets are expected to be in the $1,000 range from LA. And they won't just be serving Havana. Some destinations include other less known places like Camaguey and Cienfuegos.

The airline said it expects to send more than 1,000 planes to Cuba by the end of the year, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

Most Americans can't travel to Cuba because of the decades long economic embargo but if/when the embargo is lifted by congress there will be airlines jockeying for position to become the dominant carrier to what is expected to be a robust tourism market. American could be that carrier. The airline already serves much of the Caribbean and South America.

American has all the details on their website.
