Grand Lake staple turns 75
Grand Lake is a popular place to spend summer weekends. While Texoma is big with people in OKC there are still plenty who make the trek up the Turner Turnpike and beyond to the shores of Grand Lake and communities like Langley, home to the Pensacola Dam.
Most people who visit the lake regularly have driven over the narrow bridge and its tire-eating curbs at least once. It's especially fun when there's a tractor trailer rig or a large RV heading toward you. But that's all part of the fun of going to Grand Lake which has plenty of things to do to keep people busy this time of year for a weekend, or a longer getaway.
The dam will mark its 75th anniversary with a two-day celebration Aug. 7-8 at the Ecosystems and Education Center in Langley. On Aug. 7 there will be free birthday cupcakes and a short program to recognize those who made the dam a reality. There will also be tours of the dam throughout both evenings.
An outdoor movie will be hosted on the golf course below the dam and other activities at Disney State Park where a concert billed as Woodstock on Water will be held on Saturday.
Here's a schedule of events from the Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce.
