MIDWEST CITY -- St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and School will host a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Family Life Center at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30, on the west side of the church/school property at 1107 Felix Place.

The project is fully funded by the parishioners of St. Philip Neri Church and School in partnership with the Archdioceses of Oklahoma City with its Building Upon This Rock campaign.

It is a culmination of three years of planning to create a facility that will serve as an anchor for social services, education programs, and family activities for the members of the church and school.

In a news release, the church/school said the new 18,000-square foot Family Life Center will house numerous programs sponsored by the church and school. The church and school has  contributed more than $1.6 million toward construction, the news release stated.

The project is estimated to be complete by June 2016.

Mass Architects designed the facility and Globe Construction serves as the general contractor, coordinating a significant effort to help build the facility in the historic area of Midwest City known as ‘The Original Mile.”

Speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony will include the school's Principal Brenda Tener, shown in the photograph above (Tener attended the school as a youth); the Most Rev. Paul S. Coakley, archbishop of Oklahoma City; and the Rev.  Timothy Fuller, pastor of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and School.

A reception with light refreshments will be held immediately following the ceremony/
