Survey says! Social media can influence travel plans

PR Week has news of an interesting survey that says 34 percent of people on social media have changed their travel plans based on something they've seen online.

Here's more:

"Out of the 26,663 respondents, nearly half (49%) said they’ve altered travel activities based on social media posts, and 42% have changed restaurant reservations. Word-of-mouth still reigns supreme, however, with 51% of participants saying that’s how they like to get ideas about where to go, stay, and eat on trips."

It's an interesting survey but not altogether surprising. I confess to being influenced to some degree by what I see. A couples friend of mine spent the last week or so driving from Seattle to northern California. Their pictures, and general good time, made me query to my wife "Why don't we do that same trip next year?"
