Wade in the water ...
I was very little but I remember being baptized by Rev. Albritton at Tabitha Baptist Church in northeast Oklahoma City.
I remember being intrigued when I saw people being baptized from the pews but I was a little terrified when it came time for me to get into the baptistery myself.
I understood some of what was happening:
I knew I was making a profession of faith.
I knew my grandparents were excited and everybody was smiling.
The pastor was nice.
The water was freezing cold!
I thought about all these things as I watched members of Moore’s Highland Baptist Church get baptized last Sunday in Lake Thunderbird.
Their pastor the Rev. Dave Evans was gracious enough to let us come and take some notes, photos and video for a story in today’s Sunday Oklahoman.
It’s obvious that The Oklahoman’s photographer Sarah Phipps had to wade into the water herself to get the great photos and video that perfectly capture the essence of the Lake Thunderbird ceremony.
I had to get wet myself as I tried to grab some video footage using my small video recorder just in case Sarah couldn’t get both pictures and video with all the action happening fast.
It was a great way to spend a hot summer evening.
As a mom, I loved it when two dads baptized their children.
What an honor! What a pleasure!
Here’s the story and video so you can take in the action for yourself:
