Baptist leaders cancel next Falls Creek youth camp session
DAVIS — The June 22-26 session of Falls Creek youth camp has been canceled due to flooding in the Turner Falls area, Baptist leaders said.
Officials with Falls Creek Baptist Camp & Conference Center near Davis said the upcoming camp session will not take place due to continued infrastructure challenges.
“We regret to announce that we are unable to conduct camp for week 4 of Falls Creek,” said Brian Hobbs, Falls Creek spokesman and communications director for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.
“This decision is due to infrastructure limitations caused by historic recent flooding in the area, which has hampered our ability to provide the necessary level of basic services, such as maintenance facility and trash service, for the time being.”
Hobb said camp-conference center leaders have notified churches about the latest development and they also are assessing Falls Creek infrastructure to see if more adjustments may be needed in the future.
He said decisions regarding future weeks of Falls Creek summer camp for the remainder of summer 2015 will be announced at a later date.
Hobbs said the cancellation affects only Falls Creek. The Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma’s other camp, CrossTimbers Children Missions Adventure Camp near Davis, is being assessed separately, and any schedule changes will be announced separately.
