Pollard to open 'Shrek: the musical' this weekend

“Shrek: The Musical,” a fairy tale for ages 4 to 94, showcases an ogre to love in a show to dream on, is coming to central Oklahoma. Opening April 24th and running through May 23rd at the Pollard Theatre in Guthrie, “Shrek” is a family show and one should definitely bring a kid! But the folks at the Pollard are doing more. They are reaching out to schools, churches, foster programs and youth centers to bring this fun theatrical experience to underprivileged children. The program is called Share the Story and the Pollard needs some donations to make this possible. So, one can not only bring a kid, one can send a kid!

This effort will bring the profound experience of theatre to children who might otherwise never see and realize the delights of live theatre. Children who can reach out and connect with the character Shrek as well as Doug Ford, the actor who portrays him. Ford’s exuberance will bring smiles to every face and joy to every heart.

W. Jerome Stevenson is back in the director’s chair for “Shrek: The Musical” and his expertise brings the book and lyrics from David Lindsay-Abaire with music by Jeanine Tesori to life with tremendous energy. Since “Shrek: The Musical” is based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig, every youngster is familiar with these delightful characters in this modern fairy tale. Joining Doug Ford are Gwendolyn Evans as Fiona, Nigel Hall as Donkey, and Charlie Monnot as Lord Farquaad. This tremendous cast guarantees to charm every child from 4 to 94!
