Quail Field Day set Thursday at Sandy Sanders WMA

Landowners who are interested in improving quail habitat can participate in a Quail Field Day Thursday at the Sandy Sanders Wildlife Management Area headquarters in southwestern Oklahoma.

The event will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and admission is free. Anyone planning to attend should email

The field day is sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service and Quail Forever.

It will include sessions on prescribed fire, pollinator habitat and juniper thinning.

Two other quail field days are scheduled June 11 at the Cross Timbers WMA and June 12 at the Spavinaw WMA.

A session on native plant establishment will be offered at Cross Timbers and a session on forest thinning will be offered at Spavinaw.

The Sandy Sanders WMA headquarters is located eight miles north of Mangum.
