Expired passport scuttles Oklahoma City woman's dream trip

An Oklahoma City woman recently wrote into Conde Nast magazine to tell of her experience losing out on a dream trip to Italy because she managed to get from Oklahoma City, all the way to Rome with a passport that was expired.

“Jill W.” acknowledges that it was her fault that she grabbed the wrong passport on the morning of her and her husband’s OKC flight to Rome but wonders how she was able to get all the way to Rome without authorities noticing at any one of the 5,000 times your passport is checked before boarding an international flight.

On a recent trip home from Paris my passport was checked at check in, three seperate times while going through security and then one more time as I was walking onto the jetway to board the plane.

Bottom line: Don’t keep expired passports around because they might confuse you. Two, apparently you can get halfway around the world on an expired passport.

Here’s hoping Jill and her husband get to return to Italy soon.
