Blanca: Secure and Singing Solo
It’s been two years since contemporary Christian recording artist Blanca Callahan struck out on her own for a solo career.
Known simply as Blanca, she said leaving the Christian hip hop group 1 Group Crew to follow a solo path was definitely a leap of faith — one she’s so glad she made.
“It’s like anything, when you step out of your comfort zone into something new — unknown territory — it can be scary at times, but it’s been amazing. I’ve stretched and I’m trusting God in a whole new way,” she said in a recent telephone interview.
Blanca (pictured) will be one of the performers featured in the Lifeway Christian Stores Pre-Jam Party that will help kickoff Winter Jam 2015 on March 7 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in downtown Oklahoma City.
The Puerto Rican native who lives in Orlando, Fla., just released her first solo EP entitled “Who I Am.”
She said the title track kind of an anthem of sorts for her and it has resonated with her fans in much the same way.
She said the song evolved from a session in the studio with the EP’s producer. She said she shared some of her feelings as she was experiencing the new chapter of her life.
The singer said she remembers clearly feeling insecure about who she was and what the future held but she knew she must depend on the Lord for security and strength.
“In that session I was just sharing my heart with the producer and he said that message needs to be in a song,” Blanca said.
“In Him, we are enough. We are fearfully and wonderfully made,” she said.
“Sometimes we forget and we need that reminder that we don’t need to strive to be anything except who He made us to be and what He has called us to do.”
Blanca said fans can expect her to bring lots of energy to her Winter Jam set because she loves music and dancing.
She said being part of the popular concert is like being part of a family because “everyone is so sweet and supportive.”
“To have the privilege to be on the tour and on top of that, to have a new record out, it’s a beautiful thing.”
Blanca wants her fans to keep in touch and in contact with her via Twitter (she’s @therealBlanca) and on Instagram and Facebook (as Official Blanca).
Tickets to Winter Jam are $10 at the door.
