Instameet on Saturday: Learning photography from the pros
Doug Hoke spends almost every afternoon sifting through the best pictures that he can showcase to the state the following morning in The Oklahoman. He shares the images with other editors, and they choose the best options for the next day’s Page 1.
It’s a fun part of his job — choosing the picture that can help forever define that date in history for the state of Oklahoma. It’s quite a responsibility and an honor.
But sharing what you know about photography with the next wave of photographers? That might even be more fun.
That’s what Doug will be doing at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 at Bedford Camera & Video. He will be discussing photo editing apps, DSLRs and camera settings with 30 photographers and Instagrammers. He will be joined by Christian Bruggeman, the director of education for Bedford and Tiffany Gibson, a web news editor for NewsOK.
The group will also be sharing tips and insights about growing an audience on Instagram, including tagging, building followers, workflow for the best quality photo, basic camera controls and basic compositions.
It’s a perfect topic for our fast-growing audience on Instagram, a group that’s been filling our pages of The Oklahoman for almost two years with the #MyOklahoma featured photo of the day in the newspaper.
But we hope to see all kinds of people at Bedford on Saturday. That’s what will make the discussion so rewarding. We hope to meet all types of Instagrammers — newcomers, novices, experts and pros.
There is room for 30 others to discuss the topics. It’s free to the public, but you have to call Bedford at (405) 943-1047 to secure your spot.
Join him on Saturday. It will be the most fun you’ll have all week.
