Read the entire Obese Oklahoma series on Oklahoman.com
We’re halfway through a series that we hope makes a big difference by drawing attention to a problem within our community and our state.
It’s called ‘Obese Oklahoma.’
The introduction for the first installment of the series breaks down all the questions we explore.
How big of a problem is obesity? How did we get to this point? Who suffers? What can we do to fix it? How bad will it be if we don't do anything to reverse the trend?
In last Sunday’s edition of The Oklahoman, we published two deep-dive stories to help set up the problem of obesity in our state. We showed how the percentages and the rankings have increased (in a bad way). We showed the health issues that have resulted — diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, etc. — and the response from our community leaders. Then we described the changes in our society and our lifestyle that led to the obesity problem.
In Sunday’s edition, we’ll look into the most affected citizens and potential solutions.
All the stories are displayed on the special page we built on Oklahoman.com, which is presented on the front page of Oklahoman.com’s home page. We’ll keep it there. It’s easy to find. We want all of Oklahoma to read it and share it and talk about it.
We’ll keep the link and the story in our archives.
In about five years, we’ll plan on a similar series detailing how our state reversed all these percentages and rankings.
