Von Maur opens its first Oklahoma location

From inside Vast, dining at the restaurant atop the Devon Tower, the Von Maur family surveyed the twilight the night before their 30th store was set to open. They were impressed: by the view and Oklahoma City.

Grand opening ceremonies were held Saturday morning at Quail Springs Mall in the space formerly occupied by Sears. Now, it’s home to Von Maur’s first location in Oklahoma.

People gathered before the store opened as Mayor Mick Cornett joined the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce in welcoming Von Maur to the city. And while the mayor talked about Oklahoma City’s growth and its friendly residents, the Von Maur family echoed those statements through their initial experiences.

“We wanted to be in this community for so long,” said president James D. Von Maur. “It’s really a dream come true for me.”

On Saturday morning, Richard D. Von Maur sat next to his wife Sue, watching the jazz trio next to the escalators. A grand piano is a feature unique to every Von Maur location.

"It's wonderful to be here in Oklahoma City," said Richard Von Maur, co-chairman of Von Maur. "We've never seen a city so welcoming as Oklahoma City."

"We had dinner last night at Vast. We had no idea Oklahoma was so large. It's beautiful," said Sue Von Maur. "We are amazed and impressed. Everyone is so friendly."

Store hours and more information is available at vonmaur.com.
