Traffic Advisory
March 3, 2014
Road Conditions Update 3-3-14 – 11 a.m.
Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews report road conditions throughout the state on highways and interstates as slick with snow packed areas. Unnecessary travel is discouraged. Highway crews are plowing snow packed areas and applying sand/salt to bridges and roadways. ODOT crews are out in full force and will continue to work to clear all lanes of highways and interstates.
If people must travel, we urge drivers to be alert for snow packed areas and take it slow. Keep extra distance between vehicles and be cautious traveling the on- and off-ramps.
During snow and/or ice conditions, motorists are asked to:
· Check road conditions before getting out on the roads.
· Stay at least 200 feet behind road-clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
· Allow extra space between vehicles, so there is adequate distance for braking in wet and icy conditions.
· Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway, but is actually a thin layer of ice.
· Please be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time to reach destinations
Additional advisories will be sent from this office as conditions change.
