Brandon Weeden catches trophy tarpon
Former Oklahoma State and Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden will be featured on Gridiron Outdoors with Mike Pawlawski on the Outdoor Channel this weekend.
The show will be about Weeden ‘s off-season trip to Mexico’s Isla Holbox in pursuit of trophy tarpon. It will air once Friday and twice Saturday on the Outdoor Channel and reair in the spring.
Pawlawski, a former professional football player, produces Gridiron Outdoors which always features a football player or coach as celebrity guest on a hunting or fishing trip. The first shows of the season featured Washington State head coach Mike Leach on a hunting trip to New Zealand.
Weeden also appeared on Gridiron Outdoors last year in a show about bass fishing on Oklahoma’s Grand Lake.
Weeden’s three-day tug of war with one of nature’s most powerful and athletic species just north of Cancun can be seen Friday at 9:30 p.m. (CENTRAL TIME) and Saturday at both 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Weeden, who starred at Edmond Santa Fe High School and is just two years removed from a record-setting career at Oklahoma State, and Pawlawski, a record-setting quarterback himself at the University of California in the early ’90s, had to resort to their football roots and utilize the two-minute drill.
After a windy first day that relegates the duo to fishing the mangroves, and a second day that epitomizes frustration, success on day three made the whole trip worthwhile and got Weeden’s picture on the local guide’s Wall of Fame.
