Hefner blue catfish record
An Oklahoma City angler caught 55.8-pound blue catfish Tuesday at Hefner Lake that is the new lake record.
Burt Hudson, a regular fisherman at Hefner Lake, caught the big blue on a rod and reel below the dam on Tuesday.
Hudson’s fish was 14-pounds heavier than the previous Hefner blue cat record, caught last year at the dam.
After weighing the fish at Lucky Lure Tackle, Hudson released the fish back into the lake. Lucky Lure Tackle, 9427 N. May, is the official record keeper for Hefner Lake.
Hudson, who is retired, says he fishes daily at Hefner and the fish are all biting along the west side of the dam. Hudson catches catfish on cut shad and jigs along the bottom are good right now for hybrids, walleyes and crappie.
